What's up with the name?
What's a kitchen party anyway? ...and who's this Dave guy?
This website is being developed right here at my kitchen table. I live in a small house ("cozy" was the term in the real estate ad), and the best place to compute is right here where I can eat, reach into the fridge, feed the cats, etc. without breaking my train of thought.
A kitchen party is a Maritimes social event; a big country kitchen filled with loud fiddle music, drinking and dancing, all manner of carrying-on - about as far as you can get from web development, but currently it's the image that I'd prefer to give for the site. I'm so tired of slick corporate sites with groups of earnest-faced business types huddled around a monitor, lots of buzzwords, etc. etc. I'll probably get there eventually, but for now, I'm keeping a loose atmosphere. Who knows what can happen at a kitchen party?!
That's my rant for today. My name is Dave, and I'm a developer for the Federal Government of Canada. One of my responsibilities is this site. In my spare time, I'm interested in interactive data applications on the internet, and the Kitchen Party is my laboratory.
