31 December 2003 - Some website visitors may have the impression that a lack of activity on the home page must indicate a company having problems. For some websites, that may be true.
"But being a one-person operation such as ChelseaData.ca, it means that I'm busy doing more important things."
What could be more important than marketing and public relations? I mean, you only get one chance to make a first impression!
"Personally, I think it's more important to stick to the knitting and get the technical stuff done right first. I've been learning all sorts of things that will help with reliable, secure server operations. Things like FreeBSD operating system, Postfix mail server, mySQL and PostgreSQL database servers, php, qPopper, Samba. Not to mention all the hardware I've built, configured and fixed. Lots of utility stuff, but someone's got to do it!"
Public relations is important, but not AS important as operational concerns.
